“Can You Count” – The ReyBird Express #6
Pathway Learning: “Can You Count” is an exciting song that makes learning time, fun time for children in K – 3rd. Grades. This is an excellent song to use when teaching children patterns and skip-counting by 1, 2, 5, and 10. The song and lesson plan also teach and reinforce analytical thinking, following directions, cooperative learning, and a relay game.
Wisdom Note: Monitor students in a way that allows you to assess the pace of instruction as well as the resulting learning. Routinely ask for a show of hands, “I understand” and “I don’t understand” to check pacing. If necessary, review material with students before proceeding with the next lesson. Then check how the feedback from your students may create a need to change your pacing.
Parent-School Connection: Study Bloom’s Taxonomy and its application to help increase an understanding of the ways of questioning your child. This will help to improve their higher order thinking skills. This will also help with their oral language and reading comprehension skills.
Teacher Tips: Monitor student performance by checking for reasoning behind their responses. During lessons, periodically ask students why they answered the way they did?
